Great Flea Market Find

Just in time for Valentine's Day! I found this wonderful bead necklace at a local thrift store. It has vintage styling, however I do not know the age of this necklace. I love the bead color combination, I think I will salvage the beads for a fun and colorful charm bracelet.

We still have snow outside and it is so cold. Occasionally the sun peeks out just long enough to tease us about spring. Spring weekends are often spent shopping at garage sales. I love looking for great bargains! At the end of the day looking over my treasures is a fun part of the weekend.

I am personally holding a garage sale next weekend. Wish me luck as I take on the big job of cleaning out the garage.

Valentine's Day is fast approaching. Every year I search for vintage cards to add to my collection. These old card were found at a flea market here in Utah. The colors are so vibrant and the images have such a sense of innocence.

It never ceases to amaze me of all of the wonderful ideas people have using flea market finds. There is a certain feeling that things give when they are worn with time and use. I believe it to be a feeling of familiarity and comfort. I think oft times these items add a soothing sense that though time continues to move, we can go with it and still have real value.
I like to post about some of my favorite books and places to shop for vintage finds. Before we know it, it will be time for the first garage sales of the year and the flea markets will be bursting with items to be discovered. We are all so busy now that the holidays are here. I am loving all of the vintage and flea market styling in todays holiday decorating. Here is a photo from The Way Life used to be. Flea Market Vintage Finds for Crafting

Look how amazing this little pocket envelope turned out. Lori Gardner made this fun project from vintage items found in flea markets. The tiny little tag was made from the page of a very old album then cut on her Cricut machine and attached with a mini wooden clothespin also found at a flea market. The black and white paper is old vintage embossed wallpaper. This clever little notepad was made from old sheet music. It is just right for making little scratch notes or possible it could become a mini album. She added a white vintage flower button for trim and there you have it something old is new again. I have said before that some things are just more beautiful with age. I am at that place in my life where I find beauty in things that have aged gracefully.
I want to put a thought out to you, "Good taste knows no price tag". Old, beautiful and an unmentionable price tag. You can keep the age and price to yourself. I love what I do, and I do what I love. There is something so fulfilling to me in purchasing for personal use things that are worn, in need of repair or needs a little updating. There are so many bargins in shopping second hand. I love anything that is more beautiful because it has aged. This blog is actually dedicated to my pastime. I have found ways to earn extra income from reselling many of the items that I purchase. I love that one of a kind or vintage look that I can achieve from shopping what some would call secondhand merchandise. Since I am an artist/designer it is so fun to find that one piece that needs a fresh coat of paint to become a truly cherished "new" item for my home. I have never been intimidated by a little fixing up, a little painting or maybe just a little cleaning. One of the really great things about Flea Market decorating is that we are recycling good usable items, keeping our landfills from being overfilled with many things that are still of value. Be bold and fearlous about shopping secondhand, but buy what you can reasonably use. Remember that while an item may seem like a good deal, it can become a burden on available storage space in your home if you really don't have a use for it. There are a lot of good magazines on the newsstands and in bookstores that will give you some great ideas for using or recycling home decor items.

Decorating with flea market finds can be fun and challenging. Fun when you find something that works as is, challenging when you need to refurbish an item. If possible look for things that can be used with little to no repair. Repairs and updates can be as simple as cleaning or painting. Other repairs or refurbishing can include new electrical wiring, altering an item or general repairs. So before you commit to flea market decorating make sure you have a few practical skills and a lot of patience. The results can be an exciting and beautiful home for a fraction of the cost of new furnishings. Also a visit to your local bookstore can be a valuable tool also. Decorating magazines are full of ideas how to restore old furniture and accessories. There are wonderful books filled with pictures of flea market finds. Star Mill American Fork, Utah

I fell in love with the warm worn colors of this vintage rocking horse. If you are ever in Utah it is very interesting to visit the Star Mill. They still have old flour bags for sale from the days when the mill was still producing flour there is still old wheat waiting to be ground. The mill now house an antique/flea market. Stop by if you get a chance. They do not have a website.

This has been a couple of weeks. For those of you who have visited before thanks for stopping back. And for those of you visting for the first time WELCOME! We have just held our garage sale. It was so much work. We did clean out many things that I no longer had room for. It was hard to say goodbye to some of my favorites. But then there is a yard sale just down the road this weekend maybe there will be something there that will be even better than the items I had before.

A trip to the Star Mill proved to be a great place to buy assorted flea market type items. Daniel Cooper was a gracious host while we were shopping. I love to hear his stories of the old flour mill. The mill is located in American Fork, Utah.
